She looks nothing like me (whomever this caricature may be), but we were both so captivated by the butterfly's attraction to the butterfly bush, that for a surreal moment, I thought she was me.
In the summer of 2010, my husband and I were finally able to have the garden we so desired. What followed was an amazing journey of growth, discovery and inspiration. More than putting food on the table, it put smiles on many faces.
In loving memory of my father whose divine intervention along with Mother Nature’s guiding hand, gave my husband and me a garden that inspired the recipes, rules and random thoughts we share here. The experience proved that a patch is as much a planting ground for growing fare as it is for sowing seeds of wonder.
For my mother who put up with my father's tomatoes and loved his roses.
To my brothers and sisters whose competitive spirits made me a tomatohead (and the most formidable of opponents).
A Special Thanks
Cardinal Gardens sits on an expanse in upstate New York where, every weekend, we shed our city frocks and slip into our country comforts. We are eternally grateful to Peter who has made possible not only the garden, but also years of adventures and memories we will always cherish. Time passes by very quickly, and we embrace every moment with great gratitude.
